Workshop MCSCA 2006
2nd workshop on
Modelling of Complex Systems by Cellular Automata 2006
Call for Papers
The main goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers working with complex systems within diverse scientific fields as biology, physics, mathematics, and many others. The main focus of the workshop is on papers where a complex system is expressed by a cellular automaton. Complex systems are proven to be the powerful computational concept that helps us to capture the essence of many real systems where other approaches and methods failed. Cellular automata enable us to define and to work with complex systems effectively and easily. This workshop is opened to other fields where complex systems and/or cellular automata are used.
The theme of this workshop lies in the heart of the conference main theme, i.e. it is designed to hit the community, which pioneers computational methods in a wide range of fields as biology, physics, engineering and many other fields. Our personal experience is that such contact of researches from completely diverse field could lead to a mutual cross-fertilization of all the above mentioned fields and could stimulate their own research!
This workshop is continuation of the highly successful MCSCA 2005 workshop held under auspice of ICCS 2005 in Atlanta.
Topics of Interest
- Theoretical complex systems expressed by cellular automata

- Wether and Climate
- Chemical Reactions
- Deformation and recrystallization of metals
- Papers from the above mentioned fields and from those not mentioned here are welcomed to submit.
- Do not hesitate to contact us and ask about your prospective paper.
Submission Guidelines
Email the paper -- having maximum of 8 pages -- as an attachment (in PS or PDF format) to one of the workshop's Program Chair Dr. Jiri Kroc (kroc@c-mail.cz), Prof. Dr. Stefania Bandini (bandini@disco.unimib.it), or Dr. Tomoaki Suzudo (tsuzudo@abox2.so-net.ne.jp) or upload it to the conference or the workshop web-page. Authors could submit papers directly to the workshop using ICCS's paper submission engine. When registering to submit a paper at http://www.iccs-meeting.org/iccs2006/papers/ authors are offered a choice of main track, or any of the accepted workshops to submit their paper to. All papers will be reviewed and the accepted papers will be published in Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS). The submitted paper must be camera-ready and formatted according to the rules of LNCS (for formatting information see Information for LNCS Authors). Please keep strictly author instructions provided at the conference web page. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper.
A selection of the best papers for the conference will be published in a special issue of the international journal -- "Journal of Cellular Automata". The Best Paper Award will be given from OCP Science (the Publishers of International Journal of Unconventional Computing and Journal of Cellular Automata) supplemented with annual subscription to Journal of Cellular Automata.
Papers addressing strong theoretical developments (based on the referee recommendations) after substantial revision may be considered for publication in a special issue of the International Journal of Computational Intelligence Research (IJCIR).
Important Dates
- Full papers submission: January 4, 2006
- Notification of acceptance of papers: January 31, 2006
- Camera ready papers: February 10, 2006
- Early registration: March 30, 2006
The official deadline for the full paper submission for this workshop could be extended under certain conditions. Please, check this web page regularly.
